New Place To Live
If you're looking around for a new place to live, or just want to see what's in the neighborhood, have a look at this "Best Places To Live" CNNMoney article here. There are quite a few resources that are linked from that article which alone is worth the look. Then if you're curious to see how many crimes happen in the area you're looking at, pay a visit to CrimeReports.com. It's amazing how many crimes and/or sex offenders there are even in a "safe" neighborhood!
New TMPG Product Coming Soon!
OMG – I just got an email with a teaser picture leading to the one above. Notice it says fast full HD editing. 5.1 Dolby Digital Input AND output! I hope it is a newer (version 5.0) TMPG XPress, but it says new user-friendly interface which it has already. Add to that TMPG Xpress 4.0 will soon be faster through the nVidia CUDA enhancements. While the link is live, check it out here.
SkyDrive Online Storage
It would seem that by now Google would have the G-Drive (or whatever it may be called) online storage feature. But I guess that will have to wait. One possible option is a free service from Microsoft called SkyDrive. You can actually sign-up with the email address you have now, so Hotmail not required. And there's 5 GB of storage available. Public folder sharing is also available. What's not to love is there is a 50 MB per file size limit. That is the deal breaker for me. If I can't upload at least 1 GB of encrypted USB drive (in a TrueCrypt file container) I have to keep looking…
Horned Rimmed Glasses in Indiana Jones?
In the recently released to DVD Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I thought I saw Noah Bennet (aka Horned Rimmed Glasses) from the TV show Heroes. If this is not him in the screen shot above then he's a good look-alike. The Internet Movie Database doesn't list the actor that plays him, Jack Coleman, in the credits and neither does Wikipedia. The movie itself is okay for a rent. I really had to put aside my disbelief of gravity when watching a certain chase seen in which someone 'Transformed' into Tarzan!
Nero 9 Upgrade Offers and Thoughts
It's that time of year when several software companies are releasing the new versions of old favorites. Among them is Nero 9 and you might wonder how good is the offer you might have got via email. In the above shot you see a web offer sent me via email that shows an upgrade price of $59.99. Maybe even better is the Fry's Ad (from newspaper) showing $49.99 after mail-in rebate.
I went for store bought though I hate sending in for rebates.
Fix Vista Problem Slow File Copying
Using the Windows Vista OS hasn't always been headache-free for me. Particularly when copying large files or just many files, it can be very slow! Trying to compress (i.e. .zip archive) many files at once the same story. And almost everyone using Vista has seen the dreaded "Windows Needs Your Permission to Continue" message. Today I'm going to talk about what I do to deal with each of these.
USB versus Ethernet or SATA and ETC
If you need to know how fast your USB connection is compared to Ethernet, SCSI, SATA, ETC., today’s your lucky day! There’s a really good web article (and chart) that covers such a thing right here. Also, if you’re SuperBad and want to use the graphics for the ID card above see the attachment.
Changes in Apple’s App Store

If you own an iPod Touch or iPhone then you might have noticed a big change in the Apple App Store! Gone are the category links for iPhone Apps, iPod Touch Apps, and Free Apps. What’s more is that if all you want to see is just the NEW Apps, it doesn’t work right. Sort by release date does not reveal the newest titles because the dates are not current when in the See All New Apps section. Even going to a category may or may not reveal current dates. Don’t like these changes either? Let Apple know:
